“Effort is one of those things that gives meaning to life. Effort means you care about something, that something is important to you and you are willing to work for it.” – Carol Dweck
Welcome to the Ninja Coaching Book Reviews! I chose this book to review because it is at the top of my favorites list. The content is ageless and can benefit parents who are raising children, teenagers who believe they do not need to study or adults who believe it’s too late to change careers.
Carol Dweck is masterful in explaining the difference between a fixed mindset and a growth mindset, how one prevails over the other and how you can adopt the right one. There are some things we have no control over, but we do, however, have control over our skills and abilities. Mindset explores and shares the research between the fixed mindset and growth mindset.
The book defines each as;
“In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort.
In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.”
If I had to choose just one, it would be the concept that “becoming is better than being“. If we open our minds to forever learning and growing, we can accomplish everything. How we talk to ourselves is vital to our health and wellbeing.
I give this book 5 Stars!
