Emotional Intelligence 2.0
by: Travis Bradberry & Jean Greaves
“EQ is so critical to success that it accounts for 58% of performance in all types of jobs.” – Travis Bradberry
As I begin to write this review, I wonder why is it we hear more about IQ growing up than EQ? Our IQ’s are tested in grade school and I can’t help but think how powerful it would be if we started testing children’s EQ’s early on. What’s the difference? EQ, or Emotional Quotient, refers to a person’s ability to understand his or her emotion along with the other person’s emotions, whereas IQ, or Intelligence Quotient, indicates a person’s intelligence level. EQ implies the level of a person’s emotional intelligence.
Are you ready for a test? If so, then reading “Emotional Intelligence 2.0” is a great place to learn more about EQ and specifically your EQ. Your test will reveal your overall EQ score and then individual scores in the following:
- Social Awareness
- Relationship Management
Once you have identified your scores, Bradberry and Greaves through their book, help guide you to understand your scores and how to build your skills, use them to develop strengths and enjoy consistent performance. Self-awareness and Self-management make up our Personal Competence; Social Awareness and Relationship Management make up our Social Competence. Let’s face it folks, we are a social species and how we emotionally can connect with ourselves and other’s, sets us apart.
Why I love this book? The only way to genuinely understand our emotions is to spend enough time thinking through them to figure out where they come from and why they are there. Emotions always serve a purpose. No matter what relationships we have, knowing our EQ will help deepen those relationships and make them stronger. To connect is to be human.
I give this book 5 Stars and deem it a MUST READ.
